A Nether Portal is a manufactured structure which acts as a
gateway
between the Overworld and Nether dimensions. It is built as a frame of Obsidian,
four blocks wide, by five blocks
tall, after which the inside of the frame is
ignited to activate it. The corners of the frame are not required, but portals
created by the game will
always include them. This means if you want, you can
make the corners out
of gold
or diamond blocks and even dirt. Of course, you can use obsidian if you
prefer.
